Eligibility & Admission Procedure

Undergraduate Program:

  • Successful completion of Upper Secondary Studies.
  • Valid school leaving certificate.
  • Must qualify for higher education studies in their home country, thereby qualifying for higher education studies in Spain.
  • English proficiency test (IELTS or TOEFL scores are considered).

Master’s Program:

  • Relevant Bachelor’s or equivalent Diploma Degree.

PhD Program:

  • Relevant Diploma or Master’s Degree.

  • Certificates of Required Qualifications

  • 2 ID-sized Photographs

Application Procedure for Indian Students:

Education System

The education system in Spain is governed by the Ley Orgánica de Educación (LOE), or the Fundamental Law of Education. Education is compulsory and free for children from the ages of 6 to 16, funded by the government in each region.

Universities in Spain:

Spain boasts a total of 76 universities, strategically distributed throughout the country, with the highest concentration in major cities like Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia.

  1. Types of Universities:

    • Spanish universities can be either public or private.
    • They can be established under either State or Autonomous law.
  2. Distribution of Universities:

    • Out of the 76 universities, 50 are public and 25 are private.
    • Of the 50 public universities, 48 are managed by the Autonomous Communities, while 2 fall under the Ministry of Education and Science.

Visa

To study abroad in Spain, you will need to apply for a specific student visa based on the duration of your studies:

  • 180-days D Type Visa: For studies between three and six months.
  • Student Visa (Type D): For studies longer than six months.

Documents Required for Indian Students to Study in Spain:

  1. Two completed and signed Schengen application forms.
  2. Two passport-size photos.
  3. Valid passport.
  4. Letter of Acceptance from a Spanish university or school.
  5. No-objection certificate from your current school or university.
  6. Proof of sufficient funds for your stay.
  7. Health insurance form.
  8. Criminal background check form.

Processing Time:

  • The processing time for a student visa can take up to two to three months.

Cost of Student Visa:

  • The cost for a student visa is approximately 79 Euros.

Visa Application Procedure for Indian Students:

  1. Submission Location: Applications for residence visas must be submitted personally at the Embassy of Spain in New Delhi or the Consulate General of Spain in Mumbai, depending on your current place of residence.
  2. Document Submission: Submit all the required documents. Note that submission does not guarantee the right to be granted a visa.
  3. Additional Requirements: You may be asked to submit additional documents or attend a personal interview after submitting your application.
  4. Appointment: For those under the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Spain in Mumbai, you must make a prior appointment with VFS to submit your application.
