Established in 1965 as Algoma College, Algoma University was initially an affiliate of Laurentian University in Sudbury. In 1967, Algoma College began offering classes in portable
building located at the Cambrian College site, now Sault College site. Algoma College moved into its current location, the former Shingwauk Residential School building, in 1971.
Our campuses are located in Sault Ste. Marie, Timmins and Brampton. All programs are designed to meet the needs of the surrounding populations.

Scholarship
Algoma University offers some of the best awards in Ontario, and we work hard to ensure that they are attainable.
We offer numerous awards based on academic achievement and financial need to both newly admitted and continuing students. You may be automatically considered for some awards strictly
based on your grades, however you may choose to apply for other scholarships and bursaries.
Entrance Awards
Entrance awards do not require any kind of application! Students will be automatically considered for the many awards we offer.
Application Awards
In addition to automatic entrance awards, Algoma University offers a variety of application-based scholarships and bursaries.
Athletic Awards
Student athletes participating on inter-university teams, as defined by either Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) or Ontario University Athletics (OUA) are eligible to be considered
for athletic scholarships, bursaries, and awards.
External Awards
Indspire disburses bursaries and scholarships through its Building Brighter Futures program to Indigenous students who are enrolled in post-secondary programs.
